AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER
Autism spectrum disorder (or ASD) is a condition related to neurological development. Individuals living with ASD often posses unique and wonderful traits such as creativity, strong moral beliefs, and deep emotional connections to the worlds around them. Yet individuals with ASD also can experience problems in social interaction and communication and often exhibit limited and repetitive patterns of rigid thinking and behavior. This rigidity can make functioning in everyday life difficult. The term "spectrum" in autism spectrum disorder refers to the wide range of symptoms and severity.
My goal while working with people with autism is to maximize an individual’s ability to function as independently as possible and live a satisfying life (no different than my goal while working with all other clients!). I employ research based techniques to reduce the interfering ASD symptoms while maximizing strengths of the individual. I implement a great deal of parent support and training in my work children with ASD. Please read more about these services in the Parent Training and Support section.
