THE SPECTRUM CONNECTION

How you can help a young adult with
Autism Spectrum Disorder

We hear it all the time, “It’s not what you know, but who you know”.  Many young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders are bright and knowledgeable but lack social and professional connections.  Spectrum Connection seeks to change this.  By becoming a professional participant in Spectrum Connection, you could easily provide a young adult with an ASD just what they need to move towards gainful employment.

What does being a professional participant involve?  Well, not much.  Initially you are simply asked to list your name, profession, and best way to contact you.  This can be a phone number or even just an email address.  If a family or an individual is interested in learning more about your profession they will reach out to you.   At that point you can feel free to spend as much or as little time as you’d like speaking about your career.  Finally, you can easily be removed from the Spectrum Connection list of professionals at any point.

While Spectrum Connection gladly welcomes professionals from any career, the following careers are especially interesting to the individuals seeking guidance:

Service with animals

Science

Computers and technology

Food service

Retail

Clerical work

Library/archival work

Nature/environmental sciences

Animation/Illustration

Mathematics

Writing

Engineering
